Unlike the lighter download, the DB2 Express-C (full) includes the Control Center, Full Text Search, Configuration Assistant, and the First Steps wizard. It also has support for non-English languages in its user interface. However, if you don't need these features, you can grab the DB2 Express-C (light) for a quicker download and a simpler installation.
For example, if you are setting up a DB2 database on a Windows server that you plan to administer remotely with Data Studio, then the light version of DB2 Express-C is a great choice.
Download it now:
- DB2 Express-C for Windows
- DB2 Express-C for Windows x64
- DB2 Express-C for Linux
- DB2 Express-C for Linux x86-64
- DB2 Express-C for Linux on POWER
- DB2 Express-C for Solaris x86-64

But these light versions are only for Windows. No Linux versions are planned?
ReplyDelete@Radim: For 9.7.2, the light versions are Windows-only. We might add other platforms in future releases.
ReplyDeleteOn Linux, removing these components wouldn't necessarily bring the same benefits. National Language Pack is already a separate download.
We plan to drop Control Center entirely in a future release.
For Linux it will have benefits. You can call Linux package server only edition. Exclude db2cc db2fs and similar GUI and example stuff which is not needed on server. Keep include headers because recompiling PHP driver needs them. It will lead to faster deployments because downloads will be faster and nobody runs gui stuff on server.
ReplyDeleteYou make a good case.
